    The election won't be postponed. What concerns me is that the campaign is now effectively over.

    It's all very well repeating the keep calm and carry on shtick, but the fact is that this country does NOT do that effectively anymore, despite any claims to the contrary. Even assuming that there aren't any more outrages during the course of the next four days, the media focus (and that of many ordinary members of the public along with it) will be entirely on the usual pathetic processions of demonstrations, speeches, and piles of flowers and stupid teddy bears and tea lights.

    If we had behaved in this way over the total carnage that surrounded us in the first half of the 1940s then we would've lost the War in days. Everybody would've been too busy holding candlelit vigils either to keep the country going or to fight.
