So. If Corbyn refuses to have an election at Boris’s command, he will be accused of being frit.

Considering the government has constantly told us that the public does not want an election, its not exactly going to cost Jezza any votes.

Therefore, he has nothing to lose. He just needs to make Boris stew.

Good! If May had any confidence she would have done this.

Yes the government's handling of Brexit right now is a matter of confidence, as Major's handling of Maastricht was.

Being too afraid of a negative majority doesn't mean that you still have a majority by turning a blind eye to rebellions on confidence matters, it just means you're not facing up to reality. It is time for the Conservatives and the Country to face up to reality. If that means a new election and Rory, Hammond, Gauke etc replaced as candidates at that election then so be it. Just as it would have meant in 1993 had the bastards of 1993 not backed down.

The 1993-bastards backed down. Let's see if the 2019-bastards like Rory and Hammond etc do so or not.

The Tory Party has 2 11% leads and 1 7% lead in the 3 latest polls since Cummings too over, in 1 of those polls Corbyn Labour was just 1% ahead of the LDs and in another just 3% ahead of the LDs.

If Corbyn backs further extension and continues to block Brexit while refusing to commit to back Remain in all circumstances Boris can just lie back and watch his lead grow as he continues to squeeze the Brexit Party vote while Corbyn risks seeing Labour fall to 3rd behind the LDs

Johnson has got to the Crush the Saboteurs stage of the May Brexit trajectory. It took May a year to get there. Johnson is on an accelerated flight path and it's only taken him a month to get to the same stage.

Clearly best for the opposition to deny Johnson the election so he has to carry on without the MPs he's deselected.

Surely Boris has no choice but to do this.

If he doesn't he'll constantly be defeated in Parliament, he won't be able to Brexit on 31 October (with or without a deal) and Con support will then go to the Brexit Party.

BoZo sacks 20 MPs, Parliament votes to make leaving with No Deal illegal and refuses an election.

BoZo is still PM after Oct 31st, we are still in the EU and he can't pass any legislation.

Hadn't you heard? The government is no longer bound by the law. They'll only obey the law when it suits them. So they can ignore the FTPA and call an election whatever parliament says.

Still - it's nothing new - when they were off their heads on cocaine at the same time as preaching the War On Drugs, it's pretty obvious they thought laws were for other people, not them.

That 7% lead is for a Tory party with a new PM Honeymoon bounce, which always seems to mysteriously disappear at some point before an election.

That 11% lead is for the complete current tory party including Hammond, Clarke and the many Tory voters who are only slightly right of centre.

The current set up cannot rely on their support at all if 20+ no-no-deal tory MPs are thrown out of the party this week.

Considering the government has constantly told us that the public does not want an election, its not exactly going to cost Jezza any votes.

Therefore, he has nothing to lose. He just needs to make Boris stew.

The Tory Party has 2 11% leads and 1 7% lead in the 3 latest polls since Cummings too over, in 1 of those polls Corbyn Labour was just 1% ahead of the LDs and in another just 3% ahead of the LDs.

If Corbyn backs further extension and continues to block Brexit while refusing to commit to back Remain in all circumstances Boris can just lie back and watch his lead grow as he continues to squeeze the Brexit Party vote while Corbyn risks seeing Labour fall to 3rd behind the LDs.

Except he won’t have delivered Brexit and won’t be able to govern.

Boris will have committed to deliver Brexit and if necessary will prorogue Parliament past October 31st to ensure it is delivered.

Boris and Cummings will deliver Brexit no matter what the cost

He can’t call an election. Its not in his gift. How many times?
    Tories: Bollocks to an extension
    Lib Dems: Bollocks to Brexit
Labour: Bollocks to an election, we want to stay in opposition.

Ummm . . . it is in his gift.

You are rewriting history. The 1993 bastards voted against their own government. They were disloyal.

Stewart, Hammond, Gauke and others repeatedly voted for Brexit on the basis of a deal, as set out in the Tory manifesto and the promises of the Leave campaign. They did not rebel

The only bastards here are those now in government who rebelled, some of them repeatedly, and who are being disloyal to the manifesto they were elected on and the promises they made during the campaign.

They have no moral authority whatsoever to criticise others.

Still, if they do withdraw the whip the government will no longer have a majority.

Either way Boris and Cummings have him right where they want him. If Corbyn continues to push for further extension dozens of Labour Leave seats will fall to the Tories

He can ask for an election. It doesn’t mean he’ll get one. But if he does, it will only be if he agrees to ask for an extension. Then we’ll have six weeks or so of talking about what the No Deal Johnson wants will actually look like in practice - or he’ll have to tell us what his plan is to avoid a No Deal.

What percentage of the tory electorate identify more with Clarke, Hammond, Stewart et al than Boris and the ERG?

If it is just 1 in 6 of them they are in big trouble.

If Johnson does get a Deal and any member of the ERG votes against it, presumably they will be deselected, too.

Damn well should be yes. Of course this should be a matter of confidence.

Sounds like May made a big mistake. She should have deselected the ERG, not tried to mollify them.

Yes. If May had any confidence she would have done that. She didn't, she was a coward and she lost and her career died.

    Boris isn't repeating her mistake.

Hold on, haven't Labour been calling for an election ever since 2017?
Means nothing in the current context. They would be foolish to fall in with Cumming's plans for an election before the sh1t hits the fan on October 31st

Nope, those leads are entirely due to the Brexit Party collapsing from 25% under May to barely more than 10% now mainly in the Tories favour.

And if any Tory Remainers do depart they will be departing for Swinson's LDs NOT Corbyn Labour, potentially pushing Labour into 3rd place as a result

Yes - exactly. Any election will only be agreed to under strict conditions, and you can be sure they won't be the ones AB Johnson is after. Or he can go on powerless for as long as parliament want. I actually think this would be fitting punishment for his attempted Mussolini/Bolsonaro-esque hard-right takeover.

Yup. And as they are notionally behind in the polls (I know, I know) there won't even be much temptation to go for it. Maybe I have missed something? Dunno.

So. If Corbyn refuses to have an election at Boris’s command, he will be accused of being frit.

Considering the government has constantly told us that the public does not want an election, its not exactly going to cost Jezza any votes.

Therefore, he has nothing to lose. He just needs to make Boris stew.

Except he will as Boris will almost certainly call a general election by the end of the week and have won an overall majority by mid October to deliver Brexit, Deal or No Deal

Then we’ll have six weeks or so of talking about what the No Deal Johnson wants will actually look like in practice - or he’ll have to tell us what his plan is to avoid a No Deal.
The problem is that Johnson is unconstrained by truth and is quite happy to try to appeal to Tory voters who want to leave with No Deal and Tory voters who want to leave with a Deal.

After all he managed to get votes from Tory MPs who wanted to leave with no Deal and those who wanted a Deal.

An election won't really solve anything. A second referendum of some sort is a much better option.

What are you going on about. The LDs taking votes from the tories will mean that the tories will lose seats not Labour

If Corbyn chickens out of backing a general election now he will look the biggest coward in political history having done nothing but call for a general election for months, if he backs a general election he will be crushed.

Either way Boris and Cummings have him right where they want him. If Corbyn continues to push for further extension dozens of Labour Leave seats will fall to the Tories
I know you've called a few things correctly recently but Bozo and Cumstain have dropped an enormous bollock. No majority, no chance, no idea.

    Good night
Nope, they have largely reunited the Leave vote behind the Tories while Corbyn continues to leak Remainers to the LDs.

They have ensured their side is united while the Remain side is split and riven with division

The polls are irrelevant if there’s no election.
If there's no election Boris is PM and vetos an extension, in Council or using Queen Anne powers if need be.

So it begins. The great battle of our time.

If the backbench legislation says 'pm must seek extension' then Boris can go and ask for something so short it's immaterial. A day, or five minutes. Hardly worth firing 20 MPs over that.

If it says 'must also accept any extension offered' or 'must revoke in the absence of agreed extension', it won't pass anyway. So no point firing here either.

So what will that draft legislation say?

Depends if they are candidates of a Remain Alliance with Lib Dems and Greens stepping aside. They'd not be favourites but would be in contention. Without that, 15%.

I really think you need some kind of help.
The people who need help are diehard Remainers defying the will of the people, this is war now
getting on for 1 million Leavers dead already and going at about 6,000 per week
And life expectancy is reducing under this government

So. If Corbyn refuses to have an election at Boris’s command, he will be accused of being frit.

Considering the government has constantly told us that the public does not want an election, its not exactly going to cost Jezza any votes.

Therefore, he has nothing to lose. He just needs to make Boris stew.

Except he will as Boris will almost certainly call a general election by the end of the week and have won an overall majority by mid October to deliver Brexit, Deal or No Deal
It is out of his hands. He can be left dangling until 2022.

Does anyone here (except the loonies!) think Johnson is foolhardy enough to advise the Queen to veto legislation passed by the Commons and Lords?

JRM asks MPs to support the Govt in its negotiations. I did. I voted for the conclusions of the negotiations brought to Parliament in the WA. JRM, his friends and current Cabinet members did not. Why am I, having loyally supported, now being threatened and not them? https://t.co/vCHLTeufrf

    A good question.
Because May was a coward and Boris isn't.

Major wasn't a coward either. Boris is doing the same as Major.
