    FPT

    Who defected??

Sam Gyimah and Rosie Duffield both heavily rumoured, but no announcement yet.
    Sam G now confirmed.
A big gain for the Yellows, but one with zero chance of holding his seat at a general election. You could put a donkey up in that seat and if it wore a blue rosette it would win. Heck, even Dominic Cummings would probably just scrape home.

FPT - The City of Manchester ( one borough ) had a referendum on whether to have a directly elected mayor run its council services. It was a binding referendum, they voted No and they didn't get a mayor. Andy Burnham is the Mayor of Greater Manchester ( ten boroughs ) and runs strategic services not mentropolitan borough ones. The ' they ignored the Manchester referendum result ' is a common misconception but it's basically untrue. Andy Burnham covers a vastly larger geographic area and has a completely different set of powers than the proposition on the referendum ballot paper.

No surprise, he should have gone earlier now we can finally select a pro Brexit Tory candidate in East Surrey to replace him.

Gyimah voted against the Withdrawal Agreement and to extend over the risk of No Deal, TSE take note being a diehard Remainer is not and never will be the definition of a 'One Nation Tory'

No, because he didn't defect at the start of the Tory conference and tried to get others to join him during David Cameron's speech a few days later.

So that's 3 former Labour MPs and 3 former Con MPs joined? Good balance, best hold off another Labour defector until another Tory one is lined up.

The One Nation group had about a third of the Parliamentary Conservative Party. Not that all are still in it, but it is a big pool to fish in.

The other useful thing about council Mayoral referendums is their maximum frequency is set in law. You have to wait seven years before calling another mayoral referendum to reverse the result of the last one. If that was the case with EUref2 and Indyref2 things would be much clearer. Seven years is also the maximum frequency for border polls in the GFA.

That is not that far from the average IQ of the average voter so no harm electorally there, better a Leaver Tory MP of average intelligence who respects democracy and the party's core vote than a diehard Remainer Tory MP like Grieve of high intelligence who has contempt for a democratic vote and the party's core voters

11% of Liberal Democrat MPs are black. And people used to say barely a month ago they had no MPs from the ethnic minorities. That's a rapid improvement. How did they do it ?

No, those who want to destroy the party were those like Gyimah and Grieve who voted against May's agreement and forced her to extend Article 50 leading to the loss of over 1000 Tory councillors in the local elections and the Tories falling to just 9% of the vote in the European elections in May

I want a government full of those who actually prefer to respect what the party's voters want and the Leave vote 17 million voted for.

I would obviously prefer a Cabinet full of Oxbridge double first Boris loyalists but to be honest any Boris loyalists would be better than a diehard Remainer no matter how high their IQ

Well when he goes the average IQ Oof the party will fall to about 90
That is not that far from the average IQ of the average voter so no harm electorally there, better a Leaver Tory MP of average intelligence who respects democracy and the party's core vote than a diehard Remainer Tory MP like Grieve of high intelligence who has contempt for a democratic vote and the party's core voters
I thought I was beyond being shocked, but I am still amazed that you decided to respond to a crack about the intelligence of Tory MPs not by disputing it, but by accepting the premise of the insult and turning it into a positive. Bravo, indeed.
I believe it was the conservative author and commentator William F Buckley Jnr who said "I'd rather entrust the government of the United States to the first 400 people listed in the Boston telephone directory than to the faculty of Harvard University."

Nevertheless a narrowing of the Tory tent of potential significance

I doubt 1 voter in 10 in Gyimah own constituency would know who he is never mind the wider public.

He was part of Camerons failed experiment which has brought nothing but discord to the party.

The LD's will find out soon enough just what sort of politicians they are collecting once the likes of Gymiah, Soubry, Grieve etc arrive on their doorstep.

Oh forgot Chuka of course, apologies
I must admit, so did I. Hell of a fall from five years ago when he was seen as the next Labour leader.
Chuka may yet be the next LD leader instead

You want a government full of thickos?

Nobody wants that...why do you think Labour's polling is so low.

Surely paying money to another political party and the implicit support it infers is grounds for your expulsion from the Conservative party !!

HYUFD now supports the LibDems .... :sunglasses:
Given it would ensure a proper Tory MP replaces him I think not
What is the definition of a proper Tory MP ?

Supports Boris (it's not about loyalty to the party given the history JRM, Baker and, well, Boris. Oh wait I forget, their rebellions aren't as bad). Adopts the same policy as the Brexit Party (nothing more Tory than voting Brexit Party).

It's a pity Lord Ashcroft isn't doing his constituency polls because it would be interesting to see polling in the seats of these defecting MPs.

Grieve will not defect. He is a Tory. And he will stand as an Independent Tory. So might Soubry.
