Well you would be. You had already decided it was a terrorist attack as have/had so many others when these sorts of things have proved to be nothing of the kind.
Has there ever been a "non-premeditated" terror attack?
The point is Mr Sunil is that something happens and people automatically assume that its terror related, its a sort of knee jerk reaction.. like that guy with mental health problems who stabbed someone in London.

These things often ARE terrorist related but its best to FIND OUT FIRST before screaming terrorist.
Has anything with a bomb in a public place ever not been terrorist related?
When there was an explosion, how certain was it at that moment that it was a bomb?
Wasn't it pretty certain at the time, the police began searching for others almost immediately. Addiotional hints include the fact it was on the same day as the NJ (edit: attempted) bombing.

Yup but when it went off people didn't know initially what it was, it could have been an accidental propane cylinder going off .. Best to take a deep breath before saying terrorist or even have some FACTS,.

Because by five hours later, which was early Sunday morning here when people were commenting on it, the NYPD had already found a second suspicious device. From that point on it was entirely reasonable to assume it was terrorism. Not to mention the bombs found earlier on Saturday in New Jersey

Ahead by 3 - these polls show the difference as most Democrats can't subtract.
    A bad poll for Clinton.
But, as I said below - it's an old one. It is still bad as it covered the period before the Hillary Hobble.
an average poll but in line with most previous ones. none on WI with trump ahead

If it was a gas explosion, then it is highly unlikely there'll be another in the vicinity. Surely, prudent practice is to treat any explosion these days as a deliberately planted bomb - and have people being alert to the possibility of another. Thereby you'll be improving the chances of folks being aware of another/avoid people being hit by a follow-up.

It means you're far less likely to have to say sorry.

When the BBC reported a pressure cooker had exploded, one can be forgiven for thinking a kitchen appliance had been left too long on the stove. - What was reported on twitter however was that a large explosion had gone off in the street and a fleet of ambulances was ferrying a dozen injured off to hospital. Hardly surprising people assumed a terrorist attack as given only 6 hours before a pipe bomb attack had led to the cancellation of a charity run. To pretend otherwise is plain daft.

I guess I'm a minority, but most people think Indians (and Jews) are far too successful to be considered a minority group in the traditional sense of needing protection from the majority. I also think the definition of racism is far too wide and shouldn't include people who make the choice to believe in some kind of wizard who lives in space and tells them to kill other people.

YES FIVE HOURS LATER, not knee jerk

Who on here was being knee jerk about it when it happened? I suspect most people didn't hear about it until they woke up Sunday morning, by which time there had been one explosion in New York, an explosion in New Jersey, and another suspicious device found in New York. Honestly if you aren't thinking "terrorism" at that point there's something odd about you.

Surely the worst candidates in living memory. 60 years ago it was Einsenhower versus Stevenson, even if your side lost you would still get a good President.

    Thanks for that.
Patrick Minford argues convincingly for "full Brexit".
    He concludes:
"So, in sum, the only action that guarantees we meet what consumers voted for in the Brexit referendum, which was control of our borders and our laws, is that we leave the EU cleanly and rapidly; and the optimal economic way for us to do that is to go to unilateral free trade with all countries including the EU."
I hope the three amigos take that on board.
Is there a single country on Earth that practices unilateral free trade?

Minford is certifiable. But, according to Brexitcentral, he argues "convincingly".
    No, that was my judgement.
Btw Patrick Minford is one of the sanest and best qualified commentators on this matter in the whole debate.

    Interesting view from Allister Heath

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/09/21/rejoice-the-liberal-left-that-once-ruled-over-britain-is-now-bei/
" For the first time since 1997, that once most powerful of political tribes is not just out of office but also out of power. The movement no longer has a home. It has been caught in a pincer movement between Theresa May’s surprisingly radical Conservatism, where Cameroon liberalism suddenly no longer has a place, and Jeremy Corbyn’s regressive neo-Marxists, to whom Blairites are hated class traitors. As for the Liberal Democrats, led by the hapless Tim Farron, they are a broken-down vehicle, their reputation ruined for a generation."

Only circa 30% want a 2nd referendum whilst just under 60% do not. Almost 2:1 against Farron's move. The "48%" have gone away and now becoming a dwindling minority. Having Labour, Greens, SNP and Lib Dems fighting over 30% does not look like a sensible strategy. Corbyn might be smarter to rule out the 2nd referendum.

I like the unilateral free trade in theory, but I think in practice it's a disaster.

China - for example - would likely say. "Thank you so much for allowing our goods into the UK without tariffs. Sadly, we won't be able to offer UK goods and services access to our market on terms other than those we offer to other countries."
You only need to read Minford's piece to see the answer to that. It would be Chinese consumers' loss and the UK consumer's gain.
Minford also presents an interesting argument that what Brexit is fundamentally about is UK consumers' interests versus UK producers' interests – which your comment illustrates.

There's no way the run off will be Sarkozy-Macron. Le Pen would beat both of them in the first round.

FWIW, my view is that Le Pen's best chance would be against Sarkozy.

@HYFYD (apologies as I'm on mobile and US time!) If Sarkozy wins the nomination (he is playing g his best cards early) then he is likely to face Macron, which will be fun to watch. I'd take the double (Sarkozy/Macron) at a combined say 3/1 if I thought it was likely. There is also the question of entryism in the open primary (helps Sarkozy but unclear on numbers)

There's no way the run off will be Sarkozy-Macron. Le Pen would beat both of them in the first round.
Correct, but either would beat Le Pen. The FN are just terrible at getting transfer votes. I'm not sure if Macron can rocket to second, but he will have a bloody good go if his opponents are Hollande and Sarkozy

I see what you mean. In that case I'd just bet on Macron as I could potentially see Sarkozy losing to Le Pen.

There's a BVA poll with Sarkozy/Le Pen at 56%-44% and he's likely to alienate as many people as he attracts by aping the FN. Indeed if both of them are standing on a similar platform I can see people looking at Le Pen and thinking she's the better candidate as an individual.

I put £10 at 12/1 IIRC, I sold out Le Pen at 5s and Hollande at 11s. The most interestingpolling Hyfud mentioned was the PS, I had expected it to show as much backbone as Labour and stick with the sitting President regardless of polling numbers (his challenger could do worse though! But is a less known quantity)

On the elite thing - yes, it has been mis-used. But there is a genuine point here. We have a self referential governing class - which is quite hereditary. And has an unfettered contempt for those who don't share it's values. Hence the endless fears that any second now the proles will launch into kristallnacht....

The irony is that I probably share most of those values (and am definitely in the privileged class in this country) - in most things I am an old style internationalist liberal. But I don't hate those that aren't, or spend effort on explaining how I am soooo superior....

Most-viewed article on BBC right now is a new "disclosure" from the Panama papers.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-37432666

"Leak reveals Amber Rudd's links to offshore investment funds"

    Can't see much in it:

Alistair Buchanan, who marketed the fund to investors, said the fund was set up in the Bahamas for regulatory reasons, rather than tax reasons. "You could not set up those funds in England at that time, now you can," he said.

... Mr Buchanan said Seaforth was working with funds and finding investors.
"It was a combination. We worked with family offices, high net worth private clients, funds of funds, and private investors introduced by intermediaries. And Amber, at that point, was a close friend. "I wanted her assistance and knowledge in setting up my own show. That's why she ended up being a director."

But as soon as the word "offshore" pops up there are going to be - in fact, already have been - calls for her head.

May not help the Tories' general failure at the whole "(wo)man of the people" thing, but that's never been their strong point has it?

Rather surprising since Trump has been more strident in promoting Jewish interests - maybe they think Clinton will win and are trying to back the winner - she seems a person who likes to trade favours for money.

Rather surprising since Trump has been more strident in promoting Jewish interests - maybe they think Clinton will win and are trying to back the winner - she seems a person who likes to trade favours for money.
Or maybe they are smart enough not to want anything to do with a loud mouth idiot? Who leaves a trail of racist followers crawling behind him?

Ironic that they have an all male group of MPs. Probably all hetrosexuals. Also all white.

Panama papers the most over hyped "scandal" of recent years.
Quite. This one is really insignificant. Politician was a company director 10 years before she entered parliament. How disgraceful!
Much as I would like to see the back of Amber Rudd, I do not see the fault - is there more to come?

Trump, like Corbyn, has a Jewish problem:
    https://twitter.com/yair_rosenberg/status/778685521035833344

    Dubious sounding methodology.

...according to our analysis of campaign contributors, which used a predictive model to estimate which donors are Jewish based on their names and other characteristics.

What's the threshold for disclosure of donations?

Is 8 a group? Isn't it more of a handful?
