A new poll conducted by GfK, the first published GB political survey since GE2005 when it operated as NOP, has  Corbyn as unpopular among Brits as Trump.

Six hours after first hearing of that Corbyn nearly as unpopular Trump, I still can't process.

Is there no electoral low Corbyn won't sink to?

If Keir Starmer is the best Labour have got God help them. Having said that Remainers were by a distance the most persuasive.

The Tories dodged a bullet when they didn't elect Davis.

Davis certainly didn't come across like he was ready for the huge task he faces in the near future. Not much to inspire any confidence at all.

It's interesting that government approve / disapprove rating is, give or take, 40 40. I vaguely recall that this sort of ratio is largely consistent in a western democracy and is somebody's principle, but can't remember whose.

Kryton kept saying he has accepted the result, but that's not true. He has not, and neither have the SNP or the Lib Dems. Melanie Phillips was bang on with her closing statement.

    Kryton - Keir Stammer natch
Dave Lister - Andy Burham - im from Liverpool doncha no
Arnold Rimmer - No clue must be Corbyn
Holly (1st one) - Yvette Cooper - sensible, bad hair.

I actually think this poll is fairly close to the mark for the main parties , but 6% for Greens looks far too high. I also suspect that the LibDems are being understated here .

Thank you sir. Went to Bradford at the end of last year. Was a shock. Completely sympathise with all you say on here. I think if more people (by that I mean London folk) went to see what is happening in Bradford, Dewsbury etc it would give much better understanding of where we are as a country. Yes. Nick Clegg went almost Trumpian with his knowledge of negotiating a deal. Yet no one turned round to him and said 'you negotiated the Coalition and how did that work out for you and the Lib Dems chummy?'

Utterly dismal? Come off it - you supported governments which included (just to take a few examples off the top of my head) Margaret Beckett as Foreign Secretary and disastrously in DEFRA, John Prescott as Deputy PM, Gordon Brown as Chancellor, Gordon Brown as PM, Geoff Hoon as Defence Secretary, Patricia Hewitt as Chief Sec, Des Browne as Defence Secretary - and Estelle Morris as Education Secretary, although she at least had the self-awareness to know that she wasn't up to the job. To make it even worse, ministers were shuffled around so frequently that even the decent ones had no chance to master their briefs, with the dire exception of Gordon Brown who, disastrously, was not shuffled out.

This is, on balance, a medium-good government. Not up to the standard of the Cameron or first two Thatcher governments, admittedly, but not bad.

I can understand what you say. From what I see of places like Bradford, Dewsbury and parts of Hull I have no desire for where I was brought up - Exeter and parts of Devon to go the same way. This government and this Parliament are utterly dismal.

You forgot the woeful Foreign Secretary that was David Miliband.
not to mention about 50 pension ministers so woeful was the attention to that vital issue...

I somehow doubt it is because of his desire for a maximum wage and a wealth tax...

    Good grief, hyperbole much?

At least we're not about to invade a foreign power based on 'intelligence'.

The current Labour party is the worst Opposition this country has ever seen. Their front bench is an insult to British democracy. I'm not saying the Tories are brilliant either, far from it.

Totally agree. When mediocrity takes on downright incompetence mediocrity will always win. The Tories are very lucky to be facing Team Corbyn. It's very bad news for the country, though.

Six hours after first hearing of that Corbyn nearly as unpopular Trump, I still can't process.

Is there no electoral low Corbyn won't sink to?

I see it more as a comment on how unpopular Trump is in the UK.

Well that certainly wasn't on Question Time tonight. Nick Clegg occasionally reminded us that he could have been a contender.....

Thank you sir. Went to Bradford at the end of last year. Was a shock. Completely sympathise with all you say on here. I think if more people (by that I mean London folk) went to see what is happening in Bradford, Dewsbury etc it would give much better understanding of where we are as a country. I know I could not have done what you are doing.
    Thanks.

I put most posters on here in the well off category,so no sympathy ;-)

It's where I was born and brought up but in the last year or so,the place where I live in my eyes is not safe for me and my family ,partly down to the new wave of immigration.
I missed it, could you repost?
    You didn't miss much ;-)

Just pointing things out sean that not all Eastern European immigration is hard working play by the rules great people like some on here think.
  • Fuck! I go to post on here after QT and leave my TV on and Mrs Browns Boys comes on - you sadistic bastards! Anyway turned to BBC4 for a doc on US prisons and solitary confinement - more laughs there..

Jacqui Smith! How the hell did I miss her out?

I think I've largely erased the horrendous memories of the Blair/Brown years from my mind. I suppose most people have, it's a natural way of coping.

Who did you rate John Reid ?

Oh im far from well off - JSA sign on Thursday.. got screwed over with UC - a great idea but put into practice it needs work and I was one of the guinea pigs..

I can understand what you say. From what I see of places like Bradford, Dewsbury and parts of Hull I have no desire for where I was brought up - Exeter and parts of Devon to go the same way. It's why I admire you - we have a lot of 'Westies' where I am now (in East Riding) and fear I would not have had your courage and stayed. Continue to post here your views always resonate.
Muslim immigration should end tomorrow. All of it. Unless Islam Enlightens, we should be encouraging them to LEAVE.

I am pretty sure the LEAVE vote was in many ways a proxy for No More Muslims. Cruel and brutal as that may be, that is the case. People weren't allowed to say Stop Muslim Immigration they were only allowed to pull one silly lever with Take Back Control of Migration - so they pulled it.

Without that, Remain would have won.

British parents do not lie awake worrying about Spanish kids taking all the jobs in Pret. They do - I do - worry about Should I take my kid into Westminster, Why does my daughter look scared by women in the local supermarket in niqabs, etc

John Reid was a talented minister, or at least I think he was. But Blair kept moving him around so he never got the opportunity to make any real impact.

So if I tell some massive lies and then write a book, can I get an interview on the BBC to promote it? Bad Al seemed to do quite well out of that strategy.

    Starmer is abysmal.

Yet he's the 5.75 favourite with Betfair to become the next Labour Leader.

The somewhat more encouraging news is that in the same market, Betfair has the dreadful Ms Long-Bailey as having weakened out to 21.
