This is getting so tiresome in sharp contrast to the PMs recovering poll ratings. It seems like every week at the moment hardline CON Brexiteers are briefing journos that they are very near to getting the 48 letters from MPs demanding a TMay conference vote.

    I think the idea of May's supporters instigating a confidence vote is extraordinarily risky. The very fact of a vote happening could rapidly change the dynamic and mood against her. Triggering such a vote to benefit from the following year's immunity could be seen as gaming the party's rules. It would look unserious given the stage of the Brexit negotiations.

    I do not believe that even a walking holiday could induce May to such a foolhardy move.
