Confidence vote watch. I know it’s a dangerous game to play and Sir Graham is keeper of the list. But my ERG sources pretty confident now that 48 trigger been breached. Of course Sir Graham won’t announce while PM out of country – and we’ve been here before. But mood hardening

Embattled, the PM leaves London to negotiate with European leaders, insisting that she will carry on as normal. But she has misjudged her MPs. That night, No10's erratic, desperate briefings exacerbate the mutiny. The next day, she rushes back. Too late. Nov 22 1990: she resigns.

It's time. It was time a long time ago, but now the time really is time.

Remainers see their chance under a new leader. Hard leavers frankly should have sent letters ages ago, as should anyone who quit cabinet. It's too much.

Theresa May in that classic movie "PM Training Day":

You motherf*ckers will be playing basketball in Wormwood Scrubs when I get finished with you! SHU program, baby. 23 hour lockdown. I'm the man up in this piece. You'll never see the light of... who the f*ck do you think you're f*cking with? I'm the Prime Minister, I run shit around here! You just sit here! Yeah, that's right, you better walk away. Go on and walk away... 'cause I'm gonna' burn this motherf*cker down. Maggie T ain't got shit on me! That's right, that's right. Shit, I don't, f*ck. I'm winning anyway, I'm winning... The ruling severely undermined the threat of no deal and has emboldened remainers to play ball even less and open up more optiions for a referendum.

The biggest Tory of my acquaintance reckons gove is The only stopgap leader. Not liked by either side now but slippery and pragmatic enough to maybe get them through.

Big G has sent his letter.

I am greatly saddened to see TM meeting EU leaders and receiving a wall of 'no change'.

I do believe it is now in the national interest she stands down and hands the batton over and the Xmas break gives the party some time to appoint an interim leader

She has made a misjudgement by consistently rebutting a second referendum and alienating that wing of the party. The party is fracturing and needs a new direction

I have loyally supported TM and admire so many of her attributes including her brexit knowledge, her politeness and indeed kindness, but for all our sakes, and indeed hers, now is the time to make way for a new start

    Is @HYUFD still on board.

I too would like a contest so I can relay 2018 cheaply.

Simple, the WA is for the short term, the long term deal is what everyone should be focussing on.

Plus the EU hate the backstop and want us out of it PDQ.

From a purely selfish point of view I suspect Theresa May would love to last to the New Year.

Theresa May PM 2016-2019 looks a lot better than Theresa May PM 2016-2018.

I'm no fan of her but I've no doubt she's given it 100% and deserves the 2019. She's uninspired but a proper workhorse.

I think remainers could stomach Norway+, until the country decides to resume full membership in a few years.

BUT, I don't think the EU will allow it. They'd need to repopen the WA and extend A50 perhaps indefinitely. A deal is on the table, so why would they?

There's then not enough time for both nominations and MP ballots before Christmas.

Gove doesn't have an enemy in the world because only his friends hate him
    Gove has friends?
Well he's friends with George Osborne CH.
The Standard, let's not forget, has been pounding the Norway+ drum since day one. This is just continuity Cameronism coming home!

    HE'S COMING HOME
    HE'S COMING HOME
    DISHFACE COMING HOME
But Dave views with Gove with the same affection that I have for Mark Reckless.
Gove's knifing of Boris is why we are where we are. We ended up with no contest, just the Coronation of Remainer Theresa May. Boris standing and a) winning or b) losing would each have drawn plenty of lines under Brexit implementation.

I think that's the conventional vote to register discontent on a neutral-terms motion. I agree it's all a bit silly.

Practicalities are such that only options are coronation OR ballot restricted to MPs - ie once down to Final 2 then MPs choose winner.

There are two justifications - practicalities/speed and also "exceptional political situation means leader must have maximum support of MPs - leader cannot be the MPs 2nd choice"

Pundit on Sky News just said 5 letters submitted today. Perhaps.

That takes us to a sum total of 4 then, in Brady arithmetic.
Put one in....take two out.....that is the Brady way!

Has George Freeman just said what I've been saying for the last 90 minutes?

TEMPORARY CORONATION, IT'S ON LADS AND LADIES.
Yet again, no vote for the members.....

Much at the moment is Pythonesque, but this seems apposite.

PM: Be quiet! I order you to be quiet!
WOMAN: Order, eh -- who does he think he is?
    PM: I am your PM!
WOMAN: Well, I didn't vote for you.
PM: You don't vote for PMs.
WOMAN: Well, 'ow did you become PM then?
PM: The Lady of the Lake,
    [angels sing]
her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur
from the bosom of the water signifying by Divine Providence that I was to carry Excalibur.
    [singing stops]
That is why I am your PM!

Let's put Liddington in as temp PM and then I get have more champagne at Xmas.

He is the biggest Europhile in the government.
I went to a dinner at conference the year before the referendum ..he gave the keynote speech in which he belittled leavers. And had absutely no idea a leave vote coul even happen..he wouldnt contemplate it.

How do you get a caretaker if she is not removed and wont resign?

Question 1 to the heir presumptive: So what do you think about Brexit then?

Answer 1: Having viewed the negotiations so far I feel the country needs us to...[rest of answer drowned out by sounds of Tory MPs submitting nomination papers to oppose them.]

I think remainers could stomach Norway+, until the country decides to resume full membership in a few years.

BUT, I don't think the EU will allow it. They'd need to repopen the WA and extend A50 perhaps indefinitely. A deal is on the table, so why would they?

Norway is for life, not for now.
    A Norway is for life
    Not just for christmas

Customs union however is a step too far, it is literally the softest possible Brexit.
The softest possible Brexit is clearly, in the circumstances, the most sensible.

Baron Hague to be the first Prime Minister from the Lords in... oooh, ages.

Can someone put Hague up on the BF board for Next PM please?

Well, those aren't the rules. The best way to arrange a coronation would be for all the MPs who want one to split their votes between two candidates who've agreed in advance that one will pull out like Leadsom did.

Just make sure its Liddington will you please.
Anyone of Jeremy Hunt, David Lidington, Sajid Javid, Matt Hancock, Philip Hammond, Michael Gove, Penny Mordaunt, Andrea Leadsom, **checks rest of my betting portfolio**, Damien Green or Sir Michael Fallon would be acceptable.

Labour have just voted against a motion tabled by Corbyn. Bizarre.

    BBC:

299 voted against the motion, with zero voting in favour.
The motion was neutral and non-binding, so has no consequences.

More fundamentally, it wasn't carried so has "no consequences"

Mr. Eagles, Mordaunt, Hunt, or Javid would clearly be best.

If we take the Norway option we will be in the EEA and EFTA.

So during the transition period would we then face years of BREXIT from the EEA and EFTA in order to avoid free movement of labour?

Temporary Gove coronation, you heard it here first.

Anyone know his strategy from here?

Please not just trying to sell the same deal over and over again.
Simple, the WA is for the short term, the long term deal is what everyone should be focussing on.

Plus the EU hate the backstop and want us out of it PDQ.
So exactly the same strategy as May who can't get the deal through the commons.

Several ways, oust her in a Party VONC.

Or leave her as leader and make someone else PM, you don't need to be party leader to be PM, you just need the confidence of the House.
