DUP talking to Labour and LibDems. They govern NI with Sinn Fein. Don't tell me they won't do a deal with Labour because Corbyn...

Corbyn would have to offer something very big to the DUP, to get them onside.

    But, stranger things have happened.
I wonder if a public statement in favour of Northern Ireland as a part of the union, i.e renouncing his prior support for a united ireland, would be part of a package. It would be quite the 'moral victory' for the DUP.

Since this QS is for two years, was Boundary Commission proposals mentioned in it ?

Boundary Commission law changes have already received royal assent in the 2010-15 Parliament. They're already the law now.

Only if they were planning to change the law (ie to go back to 650 constituencies) would it be mentioned in the Queen's Speech surely?

Parliament has to vote on the new boundaries but it won't be an Act of Parliament. It would take an Act of Parliament to have 650 new boundaries though.
So are you saying the DUP. for example, will just accept their seats potentially go down by 2 ?

I am still puzzled by your answer. Parliament has decided that there will be 600 MPs at the next election but not their boundaries. Is that correct ? So how does that work ?
The DUP may vote down the new boundaries (as Clegg basically did) but it won't be via an Act of Parliament that they are enacted or rejected.

Yes Parliament has decided that there will be 600 MPs but not their boundaries. Parliament doesn't define the boundaries, though it does ratify them. Parliament sets the law which sets how the boundary review is conducted. The 600 MPs rule has already been passed in an Act of Parliament so it is already the law. Until the new boundaries are ratified though (which barring a new Act of Parliament will be at 600 MPs) we are left with the old boundaries.
600 MPs will never see the light of day. The BC will be asked to start again and aim at 650.

Indeed. Not a cat's chance in hell of going to 600. The Gov would fall as DUP don't want to lose seats.

“This market will be settled on the formation of the first ministry (government) after the next UK general election." is very clear, they are not going to wait for a budget to test supply.

As they are not going to test supply, the part after 'but' is surely then clarifying that neither a supply agreement nor a confidence agreement nor both would make this into a coalition government. It could have been phrased better using could rather than would and perhaps adding 'without this making it a coalition government', but the intent is clear.

I'm pretty certain you keep your profits. With a bookie on the exchange.
If the market is voided you lose your profits. Just like if you green up both sides on a limited overs cricket match and its a tie
With the bookies I use a cashed out bet on a tennis match still stands even if there is a retirement which voids outstanding bets.

Taking that literally, the ministry is already formed: the Queen has given her assent and the ministers are already appointed. Yet that is not the way BF is choosing to interpret its rules, waiting for the vote on the QS. I cannot see that they can wait longer than this.

Thinking about it further, greening out a book on betfair is very different from cashing out a bet with a bookie because the likelihood is that there are completely different counterparties on each side of the bet, both of which could still be open positions.

Labour would have done a deal with the DUP in 2010, all things being equal. It's current attitude is the reverse ferret. Going into a Labour/DUP deal now would be a re-ferret.

Its a long while since I was at Glasto, but other festivals have plenty of WC folk, particularly Download.

If you stewrd at a Festival, then it is possible to go for free, or effectively so, and it isn't hard work.

Festivals are now part of mainstream culture, despite our climate. The class division in politics is fading in favour of an age and culture one.

When did the crowd at Glastonbury become the many. I am pretty sure kids living here would love to go but that`s a weeks wages to them.

Glastonbury has definitely become the Cochella on the UK festival scene i.e. the place for the rich and famous to be seen every year.
Getting tickets is very difficult. Very tout resistant too. I recommend Latitude for a more relaxed Guardian reader vibe. Great comedy, caberet and literature too.

F1: currently have only one slightly lukewarm betting idea. Will leave it a little while and see if more markets go up... I'd prefer not to delay the pre-race ramble until tomorrow.

I personally prefer going to overseas ones e.g. Germany. As one would expect, extremely well run, little trouble, and cheaper tickets than in the UK.

Just saw an old tweet of mine from June 2015 - I suggest that Theresa May would probably be the best choice for the next election for the Tories once Cameron leaves.

    That didn't exactly age well.

I have just visited the End of Europe.

Cape St Vincent, the perfect tourist spot for Brexiteers.

I'll go all SeanT and say that the west coast of the Algarve is stunning.

Mr. Tonda, you weren't alone in thinking that.

It's an interesting counter-factual, though. Who would've been better? Boris, Gove, Fox, or Leadsom? [Osborne didn't stand, hence not asking about him].

I highly recommend a drive up and out of the Algarve along that West Coast.

Panelbase finds the country is not getting behind Brexit. (And if this is wrong by the same amount as their GE poll then Remain would win.)

Funny, I just saw a pb post of mine that said Tories should vote for Gove because May hasn't achieved anything at the Home Office and immigration has increased under her.

    and look who's been promoted.......

Interestingly what little movement there is is Tory Remainers switching to Leave, and Labour Leavers switching to Remain. Labour is becoming the default party of Remain (despite the views of Corbyn and McDonnell).

Just catching up on the news. Did UEFA really think Linfield v Celtic on the 12th of July was a good idea?

Also, Loathsome wants to take control of the media. How very Putinesque.

As people age they become LEAVERS....

the stability in the polling is similar to what we saw in IndyRef polling. It is only now that No has increased it's leads.

Apparently Celtic won't be taking any tickets for the game in Belfast which is a bit of a shame. There are suggestions that if Linfield can't guarantee the safety of the away fans, then the game should be moved to a neutral venue.

Is this a poll from this year ? What sort of turnout do they expect from 18-24 and 25-44 year olds ?

PBers the second greatest band of the last 30 years, The National, are currently on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury so you'll be able to see them on the Beeb from 8pm. Leave this website and cast aside thoughts of Brexit for a little while and watch them. They are simply awesome. And anyone who doesn't like them will be banned.

Taking that literally, the ministry is already formed: the Queen has given her assent and the ministers are already appointed. Yet that is not the way BF is choosing to interpret its rules, waiting for the vote on the QS. I cannot see that they can wait longer than this.
I think the Queen has invited May to attempt to form a government. Assent is presumably assent to a Queens speech which presumably is only a short time after the votes in Commons and Lords if the votes pass. Assent is 'formally approves an Act of Parliament', right?

Sorry, the assent part comes from a different market: Prime Minister After Election - Rules: Who will be the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom when the first government is formed after the next UK general election. This market will be settled on the formation of the first ministry (government) after assent is given by the reigning monarch after the next UK general election.
But I think betfair is taking these as the same set of rules.
