So how are we all? Anything happened? Is it all endless Brexit?

I am enjoying my apolitical new life, but I confess I do occasionally miss PB.

Even you will have a sinking feeling now that Brexit after all will not happen.

I was rather relieved by your explanation. I was wondering whether the 20-something Corbynista had been too energetic for you and something serious had happened!

I am still blissfully in love with my 20-something GF. She's not that Corbynite, as it turns out, just idealistic, in a hippychick way. She has mellowed me and told me that this shit does not matter.

She's right. It's been an enormous relief to STOP CARING.

I don't miss the political arguments, at all. I do miss the humour, diversion and bantz of PB at its best.

As General Martok once said... "war is much more fun when you're winning" :D

Sorry, but on reading it it doesn't bear the interpretation being put on it. We are members of the EU and have expressed our intention to leave in writing to all other contracting parties. That's all that's needed. Arguably, the possible breach is we're giving more notice than required.

The Remainiacs have been on tip top form; they've all but taken cranial measurements to prove the mental and social deficiencies of Leavers. My favourite was them using a poll to prove how much they preferred bum sex to the average person.

We are fine. Cyclefree is going freelance. Richard_Tyndall had a rather nasty health scare but it wasn't what the doctors feared. Casino is going thru a bit of a bad patch and needs a hug. WilliamGlenn keeps the faith that Brexit will not happen. Sunil posted on another blog about Atlantis. I have two conferences coming up in the same week hundreds of miles apart and need a telepod.

The conversation is mostly Brexit, Brexit, Brexit with occasional divergence to house prices and Trump. The best bits were Dunkirk, the new female Doctor Who and which Hans Zimmer soundtrack is the best.

Fentanyl, or a derivitive thereof, was one of the substances suspected to have been used by the Russians to incapacitate the Chechens in the Moscow theatre and Beslan school hostage crises. 15% lethality in those situations, apparently, which means a single unmoderated dose killed about one in every six users.

If you are still thinking of taking some, remember it also causes dry mouth.

The late great Klaus Schmidt reckoned Gobekli Tepe in Turkey dates from 9600 BC, the same year Atlantis was supposed to have been submerged.

Back to the present, today I did the Spa Valley Railway straddling the Kent/Sussex border, my first bit of new track since I did Windermere on 16th June.

You're missing the point Sunil - the Futurists would not have gloried war after WW1.

Worth noting also that Emerson's paen to war was delivered before the horrors of the US civil war, and of course the before the two World Wars. He had never experienced war (nor even seen its effects on TV!). I very much doubt he'd have been so positive if he had seen the effects of industrialised war.

As General Martok once said... "war is much more fun when you're winning" :D

It worries me that I didn't have to look that up... :(

"War educates the senses, calls into action the will, perfects the physical constitution, brings men into such swift and close collision in critical moments that man measures man."
"We will glorify war—the world’s only hygiene—militarism, patriotism, the destructive gesture of freedom-bringers, beautiful ideas worth dying for, and scorn for woman." (Futurism manifesto, 1914)

...and then they had World War One. They weren't so stupid after that.
Um, I think you forgot the sequel in 1939...

Some people loved serving in WWI and WWII. If you've commanded a battalion at the age of 23, civilian life might feel very dull by comparison.

Yes, I am sure that's true. For many, war was no doubt a very exciting time. But which of us would trade our lives in peacetime Britain for a life in a war zone?

BBC Newsnight give up time to Michael O'Leary on Brexit. Any chance of balance?

(11th July 2017 "Flights between the UK and the European Union will be cancelled for months after Brexit, unless replacements for EU airline agreements are struck before Britain leaves the bloc, Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary told the European Parliament yesterday.")

On topic, as one or two said earlier, Trump may be a a good value bet to stay the distance.

However, given the nature of the man and the shenanhigans we have seen so far, I can't help but think that at some point over the next two years we will see prices lower than the current 4.3 for 2018 and 6.4 for 2019 departure. So for me, the current value is betting on those two years as a trading opportunity

A fair number of Brits did that to fight on one side or the other in Syria.

Army recruitment tends to be harder when there are no wars to fight too.

Also, keep in kind that not everyone ever was in battle..

I saw one figure for American soldiers in World War Two that only a quarter ever experienced combat. For a lot of the rest, I bet it was a steady job after the Depression, as well as a chance to get out of Little Town, Iowa and see the world. In fact, I had two great-uncles actually on the front lines in France and Italy who said everything after the army did seem dull.

I see that Leavers have now reached the point of complaining that news programmes interview businessmen with relevant observations to make because those relevant observations are difficult for them to process.

They are getting more mental than that. You can't even have an EU flag at the Proms now.

I would have hoped all Leavers would unequivocally condemn the idea of restricting people's freedom of expression. But sadly it comes as no surprise that the fragile flowers like Nigel Farage are all in favour of such a ban.

Europe has a similar attitude. See the Eurovision banning the Welsh flag, for example.

It's headquartered in Switzerland, and has 56 members from all over the world

It's dimwitted enough to conflate the EU and the ECHR, but conflating "Europe" and "Eurovision" is next level headbangery.

Oh, and Eurovision did a very rapid u turn on the Welsh flag when it was pointed out how daft it was being. Sadly, Leavers aren't quite so nimble.

Because he's engaged in running an airline which runs services between the U.K. and Europe ?

Is your attitude that the BBC not be able to report stories about potential problems which need to be sorted out prior to Brexit without inviting on a random cheerleader for 'balance' ?

Or perhaps you know of an airline boss who would have been happy to go on and say that they are entirely unconcerned about this ?
