At least he didn’t claim to be a washing machine salesman.

I thought he was talking about his hobby of animal husbandry.
  • But, does he have porn on his computer?

I am going to guess the answer to that is, yes...

    Meanwhile in Zimbabwe...

The 90-odd year old in Zimbabwe also believes in dynasties and sponging money from the State.
Well the dynasty bit is a feature of constitutional monarchies, less so for presidential republics.
I don't know, it seems pretty common. This BBC article lists 5 potential ones just for starters (I'm not including the Zuma one)

Daniel Gros's letter to the FT might influence the negotiators.

He says (I paraphrase because the FT is touchy about copyright) that the EU has assets of ~ €160bn and liabilities of ~ €232bn, thus net debt of ~ €72bn, and since the UK's share in the EU budget is 14 per cent our "disengagement payment" would be 0.14 x €72bn = €10bn, or a bit less than £9bn, and that this should be the settlement.

Gros is a significant European economist and is director of the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels

To see the letter google "The Brexit divorce bill made simple comes in at just €10bn".

What would UK do if the EU does not accept this argument ? Take them to the ECJ ?

The EU position is not about assets. It is about contractual agreements.
Oh goody, clarity at last. Could you just post the text of the specific relevant agreement?
Those expenses commitments we have already signed.Don't worry, Barnier has given Davis many copies.
Actually, he has not. Barnier has to publish anything that they demand formally and he can't do that because it has no legal basis. The EU have never produced any list of 'commitments', nor have they provided the UK with any legal basis for their demands. They simply demand that the UK tell them what they will pay.

You need to get your story straight. One minute they are demanding 'commitments', the next you say that they are 'make up the rules as they go along' How about admit that you have no idea what you are talking about but you just want to support the EUs position, whatever it may be.
The EU analysis has been printed in the FT and the WSJ. You can disagree with it all you like, but you cannot argue that it has not been circulated widely.
And yet I was being told earlier that 'no one' was aware of the figures, despite me reading them in such journals, when I dared to suggest the EU had suggested certain figures.

No, it was not the EU analysis, it was an FT analysis based on their view of the EUs negotiating position. The EU have never produced an analysis, nor a legal justification.

As TSE says, hopefully he can find some peace now his gay/bi nature is out in the open (which presumably either stems from deep hypocrisy or self loathing).

BBC Reporter: Is it wrong to worry that this crisis is entering a more dangerous stage? The army now seems to have taken Mugabe's side, against his own party, and against the evident determination of those huge crowds who flooded Harare yesterday.

That would seem a very odd course of action - unless it was the most elaborate double bluff in history to smoke out everyone remotely anti-Mugabe in Zanu-PF by pretending to want Mnangagwa to take over, why essentially endorse the party to sack Mugabe, then back him again?

Since I have not read an Expanded Universe novels, going just by the movies apart from wasting money on extravagant and poorly designed military projects, Palpatine seems a leader worth voting for - based on the movies prior to his ascension much of the galaxy was entirely lawless including rampant human slavery, which he outlawed. Also, he was legally proclaimed as Emperor by the supreme legislative body after he was about to be summarily executed by a rogue military sect who stated at one point how they might need to 'take control of the senate'.

On the other hand apparently his full name is Sheev Palpatine. Sheev? Jeesh.

Asking for a friend: when these people have porn on their computer, is this usually because they have consciously saved a local copy for offline delectation, or is it traces of online viewing which show up when hard drive recovery tools are used?

    Her Majesty thinks so

By the Grace of God (Latin Dei Gratia, abbreviated D.G.) is an introductory part of the full styles of a monarch historically considered to be ruling by divine right, not a title in its own right. In the United Kingdom, for example, the phrase was added to the royal style in 1521 and has continued to be used to this day. According to the "Royal Proclamation reciting the altered Style and Titles of the Crown" of May 29, 1953, the latest such change of royal title, Elizabeth II's present full title is

Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.

That would seem a very odd course of action - unless it was the most elaborate double bluff in history to smoke out everyone remotely anti-Mugabe in Zanu-PF by pretending to want Mnangagwa to take over, why essentially endorse the party to sack Mugabe, then back him again?

    Got nothing on Palpatine. :D

I heard the tragedy of the country that made a woman head of state because they thought a sky fairy chose her.
I don't think that. I just think the system works well enough there's no need to argue with the sky fairy on this one.

Well they could always decide to mess up the numbering - Charles I and Charles II were not Kings of the United Kingdom after all since it did not exist, though it would be odd to suddenly ditch the tally of numbers starting with William.

I'm still waiting on another King Aethelstan, or Offa. They had some good names back then that are just not used any more.

We'll never have such a one again; HMQ might well believe in being divinely chosen to reign, but clearly doesn't believe in a divine right to rule. What we might get is someone who cannot exist within the role as the public is willing to except, at which point public opinion will shift.
How about a Charles I with George III’s mental health issues.

No no, I meant that they were not willing to make an exception, you know, to except it. Yeah, that's it.

Because they've visited the Daily Mail web site...

It's bizarre. It doesn't take 10 minutes to find out how to securely erase ghost files, but people think (I think) that their computer is an extension of their consciousness and entirely inaccessible to anyone else.

My problem which is probably common is that I use computers till they fail, and what fails is not necessarily the hard drive. So I end up with a hard drive full of confidential (but not pornographic) material and no way to access and delete it. So I never dare throw a computer away. I suppose I should drive a car over them.

Asking for a friend: when these people have porn on their computer, is this usually because they have consciously saved a local copy for offline delectation, or is it traces of online viewing which show up when hard drive recovery tools are used?

Because they've visited the Daily Mail web site...

It's bizarre. It doesn't take 10 minutes to find out how to securely erase ghost files, but people think (I think) that their computer is an extension of their consciousness and entirely inaccessible to anyone else.

My problem which is probably common is that I use computers till they fail, and what fails is not necessarily the hard drive. So I end up with a hard drive full of confidential (but not pornographic) material and no way to access and delete it. So I never dare throw a computer away. I suppose I should drive a car over them.
Take hard drive. Plug into different pc. Run one of the many eraser apps.
You confused me with ”take” and lost me completely at the plugging in bit. Stacking laptops in the garage is just easier.

Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/By_the_Grace_of_God

Andrew Marr said in a scripted programme on primetime BBC1 that the Queen genuinely believed she had been chosen to be in her position by "God".

He did add a phrase to the effect that some viewers might find that hard to believe, but he said it absolutely was the case.

    The mind boggles.

You should be able to open the case and take out the hard drive, even in a laptop. You'll need a converter to plug it into another computer though, but those aren't too expensive. Of course, there are companies that specialise in confidential data destruction. Maybe ping one H R Clinton? :p

Nearly all browsers will save local copies of any images loaded while you're surfing. First step of checking what someone has been up to us to look at the cached images. They'll also store a set of files which identify every website you've been on ever. Any friend should use chromes incognito mode which prevents any local caching.

The methodology of securely disposing of information on PCs crops up frequently. If we assume the person hasn't taken elementary precautions (say, CCleaner + reformatting the disk repeatedly), then there are numerous methods of increasing silliness. Strong magnets are popular but - be honest - where are you getting hold of strong magnets? If we limit ourselves to the equipment that an average house contains, adequate tools would be a screwdriver, adjustable spanners, a drill, and some secateurs. Dissasemble the PC using a screwdriver (see http://www.insidemylaptop.com/), cut up the fragile components with secateurs, wrench apart the more rigid ones with adjustable spanners, and the rigid parts (eg the hard drive) can be rendered unusable by drilling multiple holes in it. If you are of a dramatic frame of mind, then creating a small pile, put them in a saucepan and setting fire to the bits rounds it off perfectly. Dispose of the remains by putting into multiple different bins or throw into a river. Voila.

It kind of depends who you want to keep your stuff secret from. If you want to keep your embarrassing stuff out of the reach of your loved ones then that should do. If you want to hide your porn from the people who maintain your machine, then cleaners like CCleaner and going thru your downloads folders, clearing your browsing history, etc should be adequate. If you are doing illegal things then you will have to go thru the whole darkweb browsers, alternate identity, >1 PC, never-surf-from-your-house rigmarole, but that's not my field nor interest (I hasten to add). However if you are just worried about leaving financial or personal data on your PC before disposing of your laptop, then the solution is simple: clear it down first, then take it to a local PC repairer , ask them to clear it down, then take it to a charity recycler who will again clear it down then install a new OS on top of it. Voila again.

Or as I do with all my old devices, stick 'em in the microwave until they're nice and toasty.

Then take the hard drives out and gently hammer them into a pulp.

Seems to have worked so far.

But, does he have porn on his computer?

    Probably not a QTWTAIN.
Asking for a friend: when these people have porn on their computer, is this usually because they have consciously saved a local copy for offline delectation, or is it traces of online viewing which show up when hard drive recovery tools are used?
Nearly all browsers will save local copies of any images loaded while you're surfing. First step of checking what someone has been up to us to look at the cached images. They'll also store a set of files which identify every website you've been on ever. Any friend should use chromes incognito mode which prevents any local caching.
I remember explaining to a colleague the official purpose of incognito mode (accessing bank accounts on public computers etc.). And then I told them what it's really for!
Was it created so all those right on pc types can visit the daily mail website in their lunch hour without the shame of other finding out that is where they get all ththe celeb gossip?

It's bizarre. It doesn't take 10 minutes to find out how to securely erase ghost files, but people think (I think) that their computer is an extension of their consciousness and entirely inaccessible to anyone else.

My problem which is probably common is that I use computers till they fail, and what fails is not necessarily the hard drive. So I end up with a hard drive full of confidential (but not pornographic) material and no way to access and delete it. So I never dare throw a computer away. I suppose I should drive a car over them.

Good advice, except for throwing bits of metal into a river....

    Re porn on computers.

Remember this was all a decade or so ago. In those days, some of the more (errr) modern streaming sites didn't exist. You (apparently) went to web page and downloaded a video, which could then be watched at your leisure.

Or so I have been told.

Yeah we forget the average UK broadband speed in 2008 was 3.8Mbps

In 2016 the average UK broadband speed was 28.9 Mbps.

I'm told downloading was the only option.

Some think Kezia Dugdale is going to defect to the SNP.

I'd always head porn sites were at the forefront of many web innovations, from streaming to online payment and so on. Sounds credible, but I defer to the technical experts.

Anyhoo, enough of this trudge thru the depths of human depravity. Here's a video of somebody starting up a nuclear reactor. Cherenkov radiation and a the-lights-so-pretty goddamn blue glow. Ain't life great?.. :)

Look, I know not everyone is on board with Brexit, but that's a bit much! :)
