Just been sacked by @jeremycorbyn for my long held views on the damage #Brexit will do to the Good Friday Agreement & the economy of the entire U.K. Those views are shared by Labour members & supporters and I will continue to speak up for them, and in the interest of our country.

It’ll cost Labour a few more votes and make a Tory victory at the next GE more certain, but inside the party it will make absolutely no difference whatsoever.

Corbyn is found out to be looking at anti-semitic murals didn't know what it was. Perhaps he had been looking for Nazi frescos which had been discovered in a Berlin bunker.

The sacking of Owen Smith is a diversion, and Corbyn knows it. He should go.

Where have those fourteen years gone?

In that time, I compute that I have spent about two 40 hour weeks typing posts, and about twenty-five 40 hour weeks reading posts. Jesus. Is there a PB Anonymous for addicts?

There's a simple fix for Corbyn derangement syndrome, though I doubt it will happen for many years.

And may there be a fix for 'everyone who disagrees with me is x-wing' syndrome as well, when there are also people from the other wing who feel the same way.

In all honesty though, how could this blow up in his face? Those who follow politics closely are well aware of all the myriad allegations that Corbyn has not been tough enough on this issue, and if those who don't follow politics were not aware, why will they become aware now? Particularly when the sacking of Smith will divert attention and it seems people like Streeting will only ever resort to being catty on twitter and providing unsourced quotes to journalists (I don't know that he does that, but clearly some do it).

It is difficult to understand why Smith and Abbott say the same thing but only the one who hasn't slept with Corbyn gets the sack.

I shall congratulate and condemn you in equal measure. I used to not be obsessed by political minutiae, I was just passing time in a dull first job after university when the 2010 GE was happening (it was a 6 month 'get them off the unemployment list' placement, and literally there was no more than like an hour's worth of work to do a day). Gave me a lot of time to check out political blogs.

Well, I don't know. Smith was comprehensively buggered by Corbyn a couple of years back. That was very much in public as well, like his trophy parading of Abbott to all his friends.

Perhaps it would always be termed this way, but I like the BBC headline 'Jeremy Corbyn sacks Labour frontbencher' for the (accurate) assumption if it said he's sacked Owen Smith no one would know who he was. I hadn't realised he had crawled back to the shadow cabinet.

Genuine question - how do hard right nutcases find their way into what was, at most, a centre-left party, and even be part of its ruling clique in some cases? Clearly the party had not as a whole gone hard right or else the true believers like Corbyn would have, on principle, left the party.

The simple answer is they are pro-Palestine, and therefore via Israel, and then, combined with the old NWO/ Jewish Conspiracy its a short skip and a jump to full blown anti-Semitism.

Or maybe they arent as thick as two short planks and realise that being critical of Israel’s racist far-right government and its appalling history of ongoing human rights abuses is a bit different to ‘hating jews’. The bizarre handful of so-called Labour MPs who seem borderline sexually excited by bombing other countries and flying the flag for Israel (these two ignominious groups seem to overlap 1 to 1 for some reason) don’t sway any sensible thought in the slightest.

I find it quite bizarre how all bright young things that are most vocal supports of jezza are also extremely vocal in regards to any perceived anti-LGBT or anti-muslim comments such that the likes of Germaine Greer and Peter tachell are bigots that must be no-platformed, but their hero's blind spot to anti-jewish stuff doesn't detract from their hero worship.

No, just being tumescently pro-war, obsessively publically supportive of a racist, far-right extremist foreign power, relentlessly pro-privatisation and a perpetual darling of the hard-right media will do it. And not having any ostensibly left-wing beliefs ever knowingly displayed. A simple ‘if the cap fits’ kind of assessment, really. But no, of course he is disliked by Labour members because he is apparently Jewish, though it seems noone actually knew this anyway.

Besides, the organ at Cannock is too powerful. If you pull out all stops you actually can cause damage to the roof (revoicing error in the 1950s).

I believe that's ydoethur's job on Sunday morning.
I was sort of hoping for some time off this weekend after the week from hell I've had.

Besides, the organ at Cannock is too powerful. If you pull out all stops you actually can cause damage to the roof (revoicing error in the 1950s).
If it was the same cold I had, I sympathise.

It will change someday - maybe
I must admit the Brexit stuff over the last few years has dominated politics, and its very tedious repeats of arguments over and over.
Don't worry, people will stop arguing Brexit day to day in about 10 years, when it will become week to week for about. Then we'll be rejoining, so it'll pop back up.
I expect us to rejoin but we need to leave first in as sensible way as possible

Obviously Israel, one of Streeting’s unfathomable obsessions and a very unsavoury one.

The simple answer is they are pro-Palestine, and therefore via Israel, and then, combined with the old NWO/ Jewish Conspiracy its a short skip and a jump to full blown anti-Semitism.
And of course they are virulently anti-banker and anti-financier (not that they know anything about banking or finance, of course), and as in the 1930s that too is but a short skip and a jump to anti-Semitism.
So, you get someone painting a mural of stereotypically Jewish bankers, who can't understand why it's antisemitic.

    Yeah, right :-D

He is disliked by Labour members who dislike Jeremy’s tolerance of anti-Semites and friendships with Jewbaiters being pointed out and condemned - and who, of course, have absolutely no idea at all whatsoever that he is Jewish. And anyway what is anti-Semitic about a painting portraying men with thick lips and big noses counting money?

Or maybe they arent as thick as two short planks and realise that being critical of Israel’s racist far-right government and its appalling history of ongoing human rights abuses is a bit different to ‘hating jews’. The bizarre handful of so-called Labour MPs who seem borderline sexually excited by bombing other countries and flying the flag for Israel (these two ignominious groups seem to overlap 1 to 1 for some reason) don’t sway any sensible thought in the slightest.

Its current government is particularly appalling but I cant remember an Israeli government that wasnt based firmly around violent racial supremacy and colonisation?

Anyway, would you not say, for example ‘North Korea is an unstable, totalitarian foreign power’, when you actually mean its current government? Simple semantics.

It is an old old ploy to pretend that one cannot criticise Israel without being declared an anti-semite as though that is the common reaction, thereby ignoring the genuinely anti-semitic stuff since it allegedly all gets called that. There will be people, fools, who will declare any critique anti-semitic, but most people are quite able to criticise Israeli policy if they want without falling afoul of anti-semitic tropes.

    Calm down mate, sounds lovely.

My main point is that Israel (at least in its current incarnation as a regionally destabilising racist terror state) is viewed negatively by a majority of the country at large, yet defended rabidly by a majority of the westminster political and media establishment (including a hugely disproportionate number of Blairite Labour MPs.)

These are the same one as those who always walk in lockstep with any call for bombing other countries. Israel is a vital rottweiller for the interest of US and UK elites in the middle east and therefore those parts of the Labour Party that are bought and sold toadies of the transatlantic security establishment invariably take up rhetorical arms for Israel whenever needed, too.
Obviously lobby money flows freely and fulsomely in the other direction too, as shown in that al-Jazeera doc.

A leader of the opposition whose sympathies lie with the Palestinians is not in the interest of the UK security apparatus, their toadies in the Labour party, or their close allies in the Israeli government.
    That’s what this is about.

The people who run the Labour party do not believe that anti-Semitism is racism. They believe that Jews are rich and powerful - oppressors rather than the oppressed. The Jews should be grateful to the left, so the thinking goes, for standing up for them in the 1930s; they should know their place.

Streeting will be deselected, along with a handful of other hard-right nutcases that really shouldn't be in the party. Then life will go on.

Do you really believe Streeting is hard-right? Really? Really??

    *shakes head*

If you do not worship Jeremy and overlook his anti-Semitic blind spot, you are, by definition, a hard-right, neo-liberal, pro-austerity, red Tory. Obviously.

You are the one with the obsession and problem, Joff. Very odd.
Which "racist, far-right extremist foreign power" are you referring to?
Obviously Israel, one of Streeting’s unfathomable obsessions and a very unsavoury one.
Israel is a far right extremist foreign power...? Surely to maintain the pretence you at least need to refer to the current Israeli government?
Seems strange to remember now that down to the 1980s Israel as an avowedly Socialist state (epitomised by the kibbutzim movement) was the darling of many on the left. Look at it now!

    Good night everybody.
Labour in the 1940's and 1950's was pro-Israel. And right up to the 1970's, 60-70% of British Jews voted Labour. These days 10-15% do. This is a community that thinks that the modern Labour Party hates them. They may be wrong to think that, but people like J Wiseman would not reassure them.

The people who run the Labour party do not believe that anti-Semitism is racism. They believe that Jews are rich and powerful - oppressors rather than the oppressed. The Jews should be grateful to the left, so the thinking goes, for standing up for them in the 1930s; they should know their place.

Christ you are a buffoon. Where do you dredge this cack up from? Are you actually Nick Cohen?

I find it quite bizarre how all bright young things that are most vocal supports of jezza are also extremely vocal in regards to any perceived anti-LGBT or anti-muslim comments such that the likes of Germaine Greer and Peter tachell are bigots that must be no-platformed, but their hero's blind spot to anti-jewish stuff doesn't detract from their hero worship.

The simple answer is they are pro-Palestine, and therefore via Israel, and then, combined with the old NWO/ Jewish Conspiracy its a short skip and a jump to full blown anti-Semitism.
I think it is a pretty big skip in fairness. I'm sympathetic to the plight of the Palestinians, there's no quick steps to go over into anti-semitism.
I think most people are sympathetic to the Palestinians, I am too, but the whole Middle East thing poisons so much.

Except his sympathies are not just with the Palestinians, but with terrorist groups like Hamas who use children to blow up civilians and openly.call for genocide in their charter.
