The swift way in which Angela Merkel has undermined Theresa May’s Article 50 invocation plan underlines how critical it is that Team GB needs the very best team in the coming two years.

Listening to Sky, BBC and ITV throughout the day to my surprise the BBC have been fair and balanced.

Adam Boulton, Faisal Islam of Sky and Robert Peston of ITV both misquoting Merkel and both broadcasters having great difficulty in being balanced

Hope the BBC continue in this vein. Andrew Neil up in 10 minutes of BBC with his interview with TM.

Yes all credit to May been interviewed by Andrew Neil never remember Cameron doing the same.
She's doing pretty well so far, as you say fair play to her for sitting down with Neil on a day like today.
It's a bit dull really as a lot of this has been done to death and she's quite good at talking a lot without saying much at all. His interview with George Osborne was a lot more interesting as Osborne couldn't resist fighting back!
I'd imagine that this interview will reach a much wider audience than usually pay attention to politics, Mrs May isnt saying much that we've not heard before, but a lot of people will be hearing this for the first time today. She's much better than someone like Osborne at dealing with a more combative interview technique.

Osborne was a political pygmy (as you put it) prior to becoming chancellor. He did ok in that job, but it was hardly a compelling performance. May shouldn't seek Osborne's help - she should though be talking to Cameron and Hague - but only as background - she's doing very well as it is.

On topic I agree. This government would be considerably stronger with Osborne and indeed Gove in it. It is not a time for petty personality nonsense. We need our brightest and best on this. Personally I would like Mandelson involved as well (I appreciate this is a minority view).

May is always going to be more comfortable with a 'serious' interview like this one than she would be on the This Morning sofa. At this stage, all she had to do was sound reasonable, serious and competent; she did that. The Andrew Neil interview on 28th March 2019 could be a belter.

Is this the same George Osborne who was enraged by the £1.7bn EU bill in 2014, said he'd never ever EVER pay it... then paid it?

Lloyd's of London is reportedly poised to name Brussels as its new base in Europe.

The announcement by the world's largest insurance market will come less than 24 hours after Theresa May triggered Article 50 with the timing first reported by Sky News.

Lloyd's is shifting some operations to the continent in order to protect revenues generated within the European Union as the UK heads for the exit.

There will be a lot of cross border transferring as individual businesses adapt.

Alsico - army clothing manufacturer - have shifted work back from Italy to Northern England: http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/news/article-4349030/Brexit-boost-uniforms-return-UK.html

A little more of the food production moves to the UK according to Rabobank: http://www.foodmanufacture.co.uk/Manufacturing/UK-food-manufacturers-could-benefit-from-Brexit?utm_source=RSS_text_news&utm_medium=RSS_feed&utm_campaign=RSS_Text_News

Specific mention of us adopting the New Zealand model - essentially zero tariff rating products for the entire world.

It's going to be a fluid situation with businesses making individual judgements.

Sneering at Labour's working class voters again Roger? - And then you wonder why Labour is unelectable.
quite, what is it with the champagne socialists sneering at the working classes from their tuscan villas. no wonder labour is screwed .

Faisal Islam still being economical with Merkels statement.

    What has she actually said?
He said that Merkel said Nein to trade deal until after agreement on divorce when she said that a broad agreement would need to take place and then to move on, hopefully soon, to the trade discussions. Islam only said she had said Nein to trade discussions
Which is all by the by. The real thing is that there will be no deal until there is a whole deal. That is how complex negotiations work.

Tim Farron says A50 is revocable - is this the case?

We need a court case to find out the following

    1) Is it revocable

    2) If so, Is it revocable by the UK alone or does it require unanimity as well from EU27?
Unilateral revocability is irrelevant after May's speech today.

On topic I agree. This government would be considerably stronger with Osborne and indeed Gove in it. It is not a time for petty personality nonsense. We need our brightest and best on this. Personally I would like Mandelson involved as well (I appreciate this is a minority view).

Gove blabs. He leaks. He plays games. And that is exactly what is not required for the next two years.

We need silent types with a good poker face.

Thanks, not surprised it's being reported in sensationalist terms.

Has Corbyn just managed to piss off The Scots and The Ulster Unionists at the same time?

That should be the SNP not Scotland as a whole on present polling
Sounds as if he has upset the Nats and SLab at the same time. Smart guy, is Jeremy, could go far.

Even for the final deal! I thought that would have required unanimity as it is relating to membership.

Are they "broken down by age and sex"?
Has SeanT been broken down by too many years and too much sex?

By the way, Valls (the losing candidate in the Socialist election) has endorsed Macron. Meanwhile, Melanchon (far left) has inched up again, to 15%. He has a shot at coming 3rd above Fillon (who is in the 17-20 range) but Macron or Le Pen (on 25-26) would need to melt down spectacularly to get him into 2nd.
